I know, I know, I am such a nerd! We were so excited to go to Hobbiton, which is about a 2 hour drive from Auckland. My family and I have seen all of the Lord of The Rings movies about a thousand times. Like I said, total dorks. Hobbiton is basically a living, breathing movie set. It is nestled in the middle of a real sheep farm and was built for the Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. The family who owns the farm insisted on keeping the set exactly how it is and it's now a huge tourist attraction on the north island.
Hobbiton is insane! There are over thirty "hobbit holes" that were handcrafted with incredible detail. They really thought of every little thing. The scenery itself is so naturally gorgeous. We took a walking tour of Hobbiton, taking in the views and inspecting every detail. It really is just how it looks in the movies! We even got to step inside one of the hobbit holes. :)
We also toured glow worm caves on this day (so cool!), but unfortunately you can't take photos inside the caves so I don't have any to share. Nonetheless, I wanted to be extra comfortable since I knew we were going to be walking around a lot as well as driving a bit. AKA...head-to-toe Lululemon! I wore my comfiest pieces and running sneaks – this could totally double as a gym look. Comfort first, people!
Thanks so much for reading.
